October to May

Fleeing the vastness of the Sahara and traversing the High Atlas mountains, a so-called “blue man” (Berber nomad) paused at the base of a snow-capped peak. He had at last discovered a welcoming land. At the junction of three rivers, the nomad settled down, enjoyed the dates he brought along, and discarded their pits. According to legend, a sprawling palm grove sprang up, giving birth to Marrakech.
The myth of the “Pearl of the South” extends well beyond Morocco’s frontiers. This former capital, established by the Almoravid dynasty in the 11th century, has enticed global adventurers for centuries, from caravans on the Gold Route to renowned fashion icons. A distinctive warmth radiates from the city’s robust ochre walls, beckoning visitors to find refuge in cool alleys or indoors for a delightful siesta.
Step Back in Time in the Historic Medina
The sights, sounds, and scents of the 11th-century UNESCO-listed medina (old city) welcome travellers and offer an instant glimpse into its charm. In the morning, children making their way to school and hurried shoppers fill the winding maze of narrow streets. Be sure to visit the Ben Youssef Medersa, which once stood as North Africa’s largest Koranic institution. Constructed by the Merinids in the 14th century, it showcases exquisite Moroccan craftsmanship with intricate zellige tiles, impressive Woodward, and decorative plaster. Take a break at rooftop Nomad, a fashionable lunch venue where you can savour fusion Moroccan cuisine alongside breathtaking views.
The heat eases the city’s pace as afternoon arrives and encourages relaxation. You might stop by the Maison de la Photographie to reflect on local culture before enjoying a leisurely stroll through Jardin Majorelle.

This garden was created by French painter Jacques Majorelle in the 1920s. A haven for cacti, palm trees, bamboo, and water lilies, it once belonged to fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent. The garden is renowned for its distinctive cobalt hue now referred to as “Majorelle blue.” as dusk falls, people converge at Djemma el-Fnaa square amidst food stalls, musicians, and storytellers. The atmosphere transforms from families sharing dinner to a younger crowd exploring lively bars. Marrakech stands out as Morocco’s city that never sleeps, offering unique experiences every hour for those fortunate enough to explore its marvels.
